Two workshops will be offered during the Congress. Attendance to these workshops are included with registrations and do not require pre-registration. Admittance to the workshops will be on a first-in basis until room capacity is reached.
GEANT4 bio-medical modelling workshop
Presenters: Prof Susanna Guatelli (Australia) and team from the University of Wollongong
This workshop offers a practical introduction to the Monte Carlo method in radiation physics, with a focus on biomedical applications. Participants will explore the capabilities of the GEANT4 simulation toolkit and learn how to get started with building their own simulations. The workshop will demonstrate how GEANT4 can be used to model complex interactions of radiation with biological systems, providing a valuable foundation for research and development in medical physics and related fields.
Radiation shielding for medical linear accelerators
Presenters: Prof Melissa Martin (USA), Prof David Thwaites (Australia), Dr Chris Trauernicht (South Africa) and another speaker to be announced
This workshop provides an introduction to radiation shielding design calculations in the context of radiation oncology. It covers fundamental principles and practical approaches for designing shielding for medical linear accelerators, including tomotherapy and CT simulation rooms. Participants will also learn about neutron shielding considerations for high-energy linacs and relevant regulatory requirements. The session is ideal for those involved in radiation facility planning, medical physics or health physics, offering essential knowledge for ensuring safety and compliance in clinical environments.
