Program

We look forward to welcoming all participants in the coming months at the IUPESM World Congress of Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering 2025. This Congress will highlight the latest advancements and transformations in healthcare propelled by technological innovation. This year’s program is designed to showcase the continuing progress in the field.

One of our key themes explores the forefront of digital healthcare through the integration of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. With AI rapidly moving from research laboratories into clinical settings, our sessions will provide practical insights and discussions around real-world implementation challenges and solutions. Experts and pioneers will share experiences and strategies on safely and effectively embedding AI technologies within clinical workflows, ensuring patient safety and enhancing treatment outcomes.

The immersive potential of Augmented, Virtual and Mixed Realities within healthcare settings is another exciting highlight. The metaverse, once a futuristic concept, is quickly becoming a reality in clinical education, surgical planning, patient rehabilitation and more. Delegates will experience firsthand demonstrations and discussions on how these cutting-edge technologies promise to redefine medical training and patient care, fostering unprecedented collaboration and innovation.

Adelaide’s own innovation landscape brings a uniquely local yet globally significant perspective to the congress through the establishment of Australia’s first proton therapy facility—the Australian Bragg Centre for Proton Therapy and Research. Adelaide is an ideal Congress venue as Sir William Henry Bragg discovered the Bragg peak, crucial to proton therapy, here in 1903. Utilising alpha particles from radium, Bragg’s groundbreaking work laid the foundation for modern particle therapy and dosimetry. Given this historical context, significant discussions around Particle Therapy and Dosimetry at our congress are timely and essential. Experts in proton and particle therapies from around the world will delve into technical innovations, dosimetric advancements and clinical outcomes, setting a stage for breakthroughs in precision radiation therapy.

Another compelling aspect of our program is 3D printing, an area transforming personalised medicine. From patient-specific devices to custom QA devices, the possibilities presented by additive manufacturing are vast. We anticipate exciting dialogues about advancements in materials, accuracy, and the integration of 3D printing into clinical routines.

A highlight eagerly anticipated by our scientific committee is our plenary speaker, Dr Lars Juhl Jensen, an internationally renowned expert in text mining, omics data and network analysis. With more than 250 scientific publications and over 100,000 citations, Dr Jensen’s work has profoundly influenced biomedical research. His active presence on YouTube, where he engages the scientific community and the broader public through insightful communication, makes his participation particularly exciting.

What excites our scientific committee most is the cross-disciplinary collaboration this Congress fosters. Bringing together physicists, engineers, clinicians, researchers and industry leaders, the program is designed to encourage dynamic exchanges and stimulate innovative ideas that bridge science and practical application. We are confident that attendees will leave Adelaide inspired, empowered, and equipped with the knowledge to drive healthcare into the future.

We look forward to welcoming you to Adelaide, a city renowned for innovation, hospitality, and a commitment to groundbreaking healthcare research and practice.
